General contractor Nabholz wanted the completed project to serve as a showcase for its talents in cross-laminated timber construction. To that end, MEP subconsultant Core States Group worked with the team to develop an HVAC system in keeping with the project’s minimalist linear design. During final design, Core States was asked to incorporate additional glazing, which would increase the amount of cooling capacity required. The mechanical engineer was able to recalculate additional thermal load from the glazing and confirm if the cooling capacity was available from the existing HVAC equipment. The final optimized HVAC system didn’t add to the project cost.
