“After a relatively slow recovery from the Great Recession, both design and construction are in full swing in Southern Colorado. We are seeing strong spending across all the markets, but the most significant work is occurring in health care and K-12 education,” Coppedge says. “The housing market has been strong, with much new single-family construction, particularly in the north and east areas of the city, but also more multifamily and infill projects, most notably downtown, which is truly in a renaissance with an exciting future. A revised annexation agreement for Banning Lewis Ranch will encourage significant private-sector investment in this future home to more than 50,000 residents. Commercial development continues to both follow the strong growth in housing and revitalize blighted parts of the community. Our catalytic City for Champions projects, the U.S. Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame, the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center at UCCS, the new Switchbacks soccer and Colorado College hockey venues, and the new U.S. Air Force Academy Visitor Center will have long-standing economic impacts.”
