Stakeholders used extensive collaboration and communication to meet construction challenges on the Lake Walk Pavilion project and help the team minimize errors, complete the job on time and within budget.

The pavilion sits along a linear park system and a lake at the center of the ATLAS retail and entertainment district, a master-planned biosciences community between College Station and Bryan, Texas.

The project team incorporated raw, organic and naturally treated materials to connect people with the environment and create a richer relationship between visitors and the site. Steel, wood and plaster were the main materials.

The pavilion features 1,800 sq ft of uninterrupted space, with a large, white roof offering protection from the hot Texas sun. LED lighting partially illuminates the space in the evening to mimic the stars.

The open area supports multiple uses, including yoga, performances, social gatherings and weddings.

One challenge for the project team was to achieve substantial completion and a temporary certificate of occupancy so the owner could hold an event on the construction site before the pavilion officially opened to the public. Coordination from all stakeholders allowed that to happen.
