International Paper Co. is planning to convert its No. 15 paper machine at its Riverdale Mill in Selma from uncoated freesheet to high-quality whitetop linerboard and containerboard. Alabama

GE Appliances, a Haier company, is planning to enlarge its refrigerator plant in Decatur. The 40,000-sq-ft expansion will increase the plant’s capacity by approximately 25% and enable the company to meet increasing demand for its top-freezer refrigerators. Florida

The South Florida Water Management District is currently evaluating submitted bids from contractors seeking to construct the Caloosahatchee (C43) West Basin Storage Reservoir in West Palm Beach. The project involves constructing two multigated reservoir discharge structures; two passive emergency spillways; one gated structure connecting the two reservoir cells; six perimeter canal gated structures; two bridges; and one small irrigation pump station. Florida

NextEra Energy is planning to construct the Westlake Solar Energy Center, a 74.5-MW solar farm, on a 400.5-acre site in Loxahatchee. The project will consist of solar photovoltaic panels, transformers, a collector yard, unpaved access pathways and a perimeter security fence. It is valued at $136 million. Georgia 

The Allen Morris Co. and Merrill Trust Communities & Resorts are planning to build a 250-room Westin Hotel, 200 villas, a conference center and a spa at 8000 Capps Ferry Road in Douglasville. Construction is expected to begin in 2019, with completion slated for mid-2020. The project’s estimated value is $155 million. North Carolina

The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out the U.S. Route 17 Hampstead Bypass improvement. The proposed work will involve extending Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington from Market Street (U.S. Route 17 Business) to the U.S. Route 17 Wilmington Bypass in New Hanover County as well as building a bypass around the town of Hampstead in Pender County. The project is being designed by Mulkey Engineers & Consultants. Bidding and construction on the project are expected to occur in 2020. The project is valued at $219 million.
