Southwest People: Construction business updates for January 2018
Chris Anvik, project director with McCarthy Building Cos.’ water services team, has joined the Water Design-Build Council’s advisory board. Chartered in 2006, the council is a nonprofit corporation that promotes design-build and construction management at-risk project procurement.
Sean Miller has been hired to the position of project director for the Southwest division of McCarthy Building Cos. In this role, Miller will focus on developing and leading teams for health care construction projects. With 17 years in his field, Miller manages projects, including the preconstruction, construction and owner-occupy phases. Miller is currently overseeing projects with clients Dignity Health and Banner Health in Phoenix.
Manhard Consulting has appointed Chris Anderson as the project manager for its Reno, Nev., office. Anderson’s duties include revitalizing the firm’s public-sector portfolio along with assisting with residential, commercial and industrial land development projects. He will also formulate design concepts and project plans in private and public markets. Anderson previously held management positions in multidisciplinary civil engineering, business and land development.
Dawn Hart and Martha dePlazaola Abbott have been named co-managing directors of Gensler’s Phoenix office. Both women will lead the 50-person team alongside co-regional managing principals Kimberly Graham and Rob Jernigan. Hart, who earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in architecture from the University of Wisconsin, has three decades of experience in the Phoenix area. Abbott, who earned her architecture degree from the University of Florida, has nearly 30 years of experience and previously worked in Gensler’s Los Angeles office from 1999 to 2004.
Colleen Kucera has been promoted to director of marketing at Ryan Cos. She will oversee a range of marketing disciplines for Ryan’s Southwest and Northwest regions, including brand development and implementation, marketing strategy, proposal and interview preparation, event planning and public relations.
Nicole Maas has been promoted to vice president of marketing and communications at Kitchell Contractors from her role as marketing executive. Maas is credited with playing an integral role in growing Kitchell’s national building footprint.
Dan Mills has been named vice president of Kitchell CEM, moving up from the position of regional executive for Arizona. Mills recently oversaw the $750-million Utah State Prison project as well as the Tempe Center for the Arts. Mills started his 20-year tenure with Kitchell as a project engineer in the Midwest region.
