Situated in Orlando’s fast-growing “Medical City,” the Lake Nona Town Center is home to the area’s first hotels as well as an onsite convention center, meeting spaces and a pedestrian-friendly plaza.

The project included the construction of a 204-key, seven-story hotel; a four-story, 84,352-sq-ft office building with ground-level retail space; a 600-space, 228,500-sq-ft parking garage, the six-story Beacon tower and the 264-ft-long Code Wall, featuring binary code surrounding the garage. The binary code is illuminated and translates to the goals and mission of the Lake Nona community, which include “inspire,” “connect” and “participate.”

The hotel building—which accommodates both a Marriott Residence Inn and a Courtyard by Marriott—required the construction of an enclosure for a projector system that would shine upon the Beacon, located across the plaza, from within a hotel guest room.

Intended to look like a piece of furniture, the projector’s design was performed when the project was at 75% completion. The project team added theater glass, sound dampening and an additional fan coil unit to minimize the temperature of the projector system.

A complex smoke control system required two additional months to design, install and test.
