The continuing-care retirement community in Santa Rosa requested a reinvention and expansion to add upscale features in the spirit of the original Craftsman style vernacular. Completed on time and under budget in November of last year, the project consisted of a $3.7-million main campus reinvention and, adjacent to it, a $1.3-million expansion of active-adult housing. A detailed work plan and campus-wide sequencing of construction activities minimized disruptions to the occupied facility and helped ensure the safety of residents. The team also had to carefully coordinate the replacement systems in the central mechanical plant to ensure that the new equipment could be integrated with only minor loss of services. The contractor also worked closely with facilities management when a shutdown was required.
