The 260,000-sq-ft home office and global technology center for Schreiber Foods, a maker of dairy products, includes office space, a kitchen and servery, multiple test kitchens, laboratories, a data center and a pilot plant for evaluating new dairy processes.

High sanitary conditions were required for food production, requiring unique material and installation techniques for constructing the production areas.

To help Schreiber streamline this process, the construction manager procured a jobsite trailer where examples of all pilot-plant details were installed, including vitrified tile, insulated metal panel ceiling, outlets, sinks and piping.

The trailer was turned over to Schreiber upon completion.

This not only allowed the construction manager to work out the details with Schreiber and the design team before working in the actual pilot plant, but it also provided Schreiber with a tool to use on future projects to demonstrate the required installation details.

Extensive construction of detailed mock-ups ensured that equipment, material and quality met industry standards, project team members say.

Management of the trade contractors’ work kept quality up and costs down. As a result, the construction manager delivered 10% savings back to Schreiber.
