The United States Green Building Council has announced the recipients of the 2010 LEED for Homes Awards recognizing projects, developers and home builders who have demonstrated leadership in the residential building marketplace.

The General Colin L. Powell Apartments located in the South Bronx was awarded the Outstanding Affordable Housing award by the USGBC.

Three projects in the New York area were recognized in such categories as affordable housing projects and developers. Blue Sea Development of New York was honored with the Outstanding Affordable Developer award for the LEED Platinum General Colin L. Powell Apartments, Morrisinia Homes in the Bronx and the Eltona, the first affordable rental LEED Platinum building in New York State.

The General Colin L. Powell Apartments, a 50-unit midrise building located on a once boarded up street in the South Bronx and built by Blue Sea Development Company and Habitat for Humanity New York City was awarded the Outstanding Affordable Housing Project. The apartment complex incorporated long-term affordability through energy savings into its project design and is the highest modeled energy savings of any affordable multifamily project in New York City’s ENERGY STAR® history.

Other 2010 award categories recognized innovative multi and single-family projects, production builders, an overall commitment to LEED for Homes and Project of the Year. The winners in these categories include the 100K House in Philadelphia, built by Postgreen for the 2010 Project of the Year award, Sacramento Habitat for Humanity for the Outstanding Program Commitment award, Artistic Homes for the Outstanding Production Builder award based on achievements and future commitments to green home building in New Mexico, 3404 Talon Court in Wilmington, North Carolina built by ILM Design Build for the Outstanding Multifamily Project award, and Bastyr Student Housing at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington for the Outstanding Multifamily Project award.

The 2010 LEED for Homes award winners were chosen by a panel of judges nominated by the LEED for Homes stakeholder community and drawn from hundreds of nominations received through a public call.
