R.A. Smith National of Brookfield, Wis., has received awards from several organizations for the firm’s design of the 1.3-mi Calhoun Road reconstruction project for Brookfield, Wis.

R.A. Smith National was the prime consultant and design engineer. The firm was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project, including roadway and structures design, environmental coordination, real estate acquisition and public involvement, and coordinating a team of 10 subconsultants.

The project has been recognized with the following awards:

• 2010 Public Works Project of the Year - American Public Works Association (APWA), Wisconsin Chapter

• Excellence in Highway Design for Consultant Urban Design - Wisconsin Department of Transportation

• State finalist, Engineering Excellence Award - American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)

The reconstruction of Calhoun Road was completed in September 2009.
