To date, the I-35W bridge has received more than 25 regional and national awards.

The National Concrete Bridge Council and the Federal Highway Administration sponsored the conference, where a jury of experts selected the I-35W bridge as one of seven national winners.

The conference featured a series of presentations and workshops on sustainable bridges, smart bridges, non-destructive evaluation for bridges, durable bridge decks and innovative bridge design and construction.

Cemstone provided 60,000 cu yds of high performance concrete for the Flatiron/Manson design-build team, including four primary high-performance concrete mixes for strength and multiple levels of redundancy.

These high performance mixes also enhanced the project’s environmental stewardship by reducing the amount of virgin material, particularly Portland cement (and its attendant carbon dioxide emissions), in the structure.

The National Concrete Bridge Council is a council of industry organizations allied to promote quality in concrete bridge construction; gather and disseminate information on design, construction and condition of concrete bridges; establish communication with federal and state departments of transportation, city and county public works departments, and consulting engineers; and provide information on behalf of the concrete industry to codes and standards groups.
