Arverne by the Sea YMCA has chosen Racanelli Construction Co., Melville, N.Y., to provide general contractor/construction management services on a new $17.3-million project in Queens. Construction on the two-story, 36,600-sq-ft building began in September and is expected to be completed by March 2013.
The project will be built on a 2.2-acre site, part of the 117-acre Arverne-by-the-sea residential community in Arverne, N.Y. The facility will be constructed out of a piled foundation and contain concrete and structural steel framing. It will include a partial basement with a pool hall, locker rooms, conference rooms, multi-purpose rooms, a gymnasium, fitness, exercise and aerobic rooms, as well as elevator and mechanical rooms. Donald Blair Architects, New York, is the architect on the project.
The Arverne YMCA will be the only indoor aquatic center available to the community on the Rockaway peninsula and the first family aquatic center in the five boroughs, says a Racanelli spokesperson. The facility will have one leisure pool with a water slide and one four-lane lap pool.
Racanelli is also conducting site work, which includes construction of 100 parking spaces, an enclosed children’s playground, Little League baseball field, outdoor sitting areas and landscaping.
Racanelli completed a $17.5 million, 64,929-sq-ft YMCA facility in Patchogue, N.Y. in September 2010.
