New Energy Center Ranks Among Nations Cleanest
The Springfield, Mo.-based John Twitty Energy Center Unit 2, a 300-MW coal-fired plant equipped with state-of-the-art emission reduction technology, ranks among the nation's cleanest and operates well below permissible limits established by state and federal laws.
The plant's emission controls include activated carbon injection for mercury emission control; urea-based SCR for NOx emission control; and a dry fluidized bed scrubber for SO2 and acid gas emission control.
The four-year project required a staff of more than 60 designers and generated more than 20,000 vendor and contractor shop drawings.
