The $26.5-million facility is the first Colorado school to seek LEED-Platinum. It features geothermal and solar power, a zero-waste cafeteria, many recycled materials and, for the new facade, two exterior walls salvaged from the original 1924 school. The 107,000-sq-ft building includes 34 classrooms for 600 students and solar panels that shelter the bicycle racks. The original gym wood flooring was repurposed for use as interior paneling. More than half of the demolition and landscape debris was recycled or composted, and 84% of construction waste was kept out of the landfill.
