A second iconic tower, rising to 683 ft, is planned for downtown Boston. On April 5, Midwood Investment and Development, New York City, presented detailed plans for the One Bromfield project to the Boston Civic Design Commission. The proposed 59-story tower, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Chicago, is planned for a 23,768-sq-ft lot, with 419 residential units, overlooking Boston Common. Plans for the project, which seeks LEED Gold certification, reveal a building with optimized rotation, for passive thermal performance; fillet corners, for decreased impact of wind loads on the structure; and lower cuts, for increased solar access. The high-rise is designed to complement the slightly higher, 685-ft Millennium Tower, with “softness distinguishing the tower from more rectilinear geometry in the skyline.”
