The results from ENR Southeast's annual Top Specialty Contractors survey are in, revealing a mixed bag for regional firms.

With the summer driving season upon us—in an election year to boot—that must mean some politician somewhere is talking about temporarily rescinding some portion of the gas tax. Instead, talk seems to center on adding tolls.

With Memorial Day just behind us, and the school year wrapping up, it can mean only one thing: Here comes summer!  Well, that, and that there is less than a month for Southeast firms  to submit  your "best projects" for ENR Southeast's annual Best Projects competition!

Four months into 2012, Florida's fledgling construction recovery appears to be taking hold.

Recognizing its portfolio of notable regional projects, commitment to sustainability and its efforts to push construction industry innovation, ENR Southeast has named Skanska USA as this year's "Contractor of the Year."

Here and there and in bits and pieces, the construction industry is continuing to show signs of life, if not full  recovery. The jobs outlook is hardly any better—except, maybe, for engineering graduates.

It's certainly not surprising a construction worker like 'Billy Bob' ended up in Miami. But he seemed like he'd given up on going back there. He lived from an RV, so anywhere was possible, even North Dakota.

For some Southeast contractors—but definitely not all—2011 proved to be a year of recovery.
