Each year, ENR Southeast ranks the largest projects to start construction during the previous year in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee, as well as Puerto Rico.

As the publication looks back at the projects that started construction during 2021, the ones listed below would seem to indicate business as usual for the Southeast construction industry. Hospitals, mixed-use developments, multifamily, hospitality, manufacturing and distribution facilities are featured, all staples of the region's robust construction markets.

Even so, the challenges of workforce, inflation and supply chain continue to impact project owners and their contractors in many ways. How Southeast firms are coping with these and myriad other challenges will be addressed in our Top Starts feature, where will include perspectives from representatives of regional firms.

ENR Southeast uses a variety of sources, including information from Dodge Data & Analytics, as well as news reports from Engineering News-Record and other media publications. Below is a preliminary "preview" version of the yet-to-be finalized ranking. If your firm started construction on a project of $100 million or more during 2021, it's not too late to let us know so we can possibly add it to this year's Top Starts ranking.
