Earlier this year, ENR Southeast announced its annual Best Projects award winners. In addition, each year we assemble a panel of safety experts to choose which project entries are most deserving of one of our most important awards, the Excellence in Safety Award. Assisting with this selection process this year were: Jeffrey Ruebesam, vice president-health, safety and environment for Fluor, Greenville, S.C.; and Deborah Hampton, corporate environmental, health and safety officer with Odebrecht, Coral Gables, Fla.

And the winners are:

Excellence in Safety Best Project

Allen Combined-Cycle Plant, Memphis, Tenn. - Submitted by Kiewit
In its entry, submitter Kiewit noted that its "‘Nobody Gets Hurt’" (program) means no incidents and no injuries, no matter how minor." And through a long list of initiatives, the project team achieved just that, with workers totaling 2.7 million work hours with zero lost-time incidents.

The safety judges also decided to recognize two other projects with Awards of Merit for safety. These safety award winners included:

Award of Merit

Great Wolf Lodge, LaGrange, Ga. - Submitted by Turner Construction Co.

Award of Merit

Picayune Strand Restoration, Miller Pump Station, Naples, Fla. - Submitted by Archer Western

ENR Southeast will provide readers with more information about these projects and the safety results that they achieved in our November print edition. Congratulations to this year’s safety award winners!
