Last year, ENR Southeast announced its first-ever recipients of its then-inaugural Legacy Award. As ENR noted at the time we established this new program of industry recognition, the award recognizes those people "who have established a solid 'legacy' of lifetime service to the A/E/C industry and to their colleagues. Movers. Shakers. Mentors. True professionals who have gone above and beyond for decades."

The two recipients of ENR Southeast’s inaugural Legacy Award included two people who admirably embodied: Pat Rodgers, president and CEO of Charlotte-based Rodgers Builders; and Tom Murphy Jr., chairman and CEO of Coastal Construction Group, Miami.

This year, ENR Southeast’s Legacy Award is being presented to another, equally deserving industry representative, and one of Atlanta’s most well-known and respected builders, Bill Pinto. In a 39-year tenure with Hardin Construction Co., Pinto served as chief operating officer and principal before retiring as president in 2013, shortly before DPR Construction acquired the Atlanta-based builder.

Pinto was inducted into the University of Florida’s Construction Hall of Fame in 1998 after receiving the “Distinguished Builder Award,” from the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction, which recognized his “dedication to construction excellence, his active support of the industry and his outstanding civic and community involvement.” Pinto also aided with the creation of the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia, a nonprofit education foundation chartered to address the craft training needs of the state’s commercial and industrial construction industry.

Of course, Pinto did much more than that over the course of his career, and ENR Southeast will provide more background and color behind his selection as this year’s Legacy Award winner in our January 2016 print edition.
