The votes have been tallied, and AECOM has been named ENR Southeast's "Design Firm of the Year." An article profiling the firm will be featured in the upcoming May issue of ENR Southeast.

The selection was the result of an internal selection process that included ENR editors from across the country. This year, a pair of nominees was chosen to vie for the annual honor, based mostly on revenue growth. In addition to their revenue figures, the nominated firms were asked to provide ENR Southeast with information about major projects; sustainability initiatives and accomplishments; industry recognition during the past year; and other items. Like the revenue figures, which cover the preceding year, this information focused on activities that occurred during 2011.

AECOM made a strong case for the designation. For starters, the firm reported a 2011 increase in regional revenue of $74.6 million, or roughly 33% growth. By comparison, many of the other top firms that responded to ENR Southeast's annual Top Design Firms ranking experienced either only slight gains or declines in regional revenue during the past year.

The firm's Atlanta office—which AECOM reports as its main Southeast office—was cited as the generator of much of the past year's increases, due to recently awarded contracts in the federal services sector. AECOM is also a member of the team building the $1.2-billion Interstate 595 Corridor Improvements project, under construction in Broward County, Fla.

We'll have plenty of additional information about AECOM's recent regional activity in the upcoming May issue of ENR Southeast.

In the meantime, what do you think of this selection of AECOM as this year's "Design Firm of the Year?"
