ENR West 2026 California Design Firm of the Year: BKF

ENR regional editors have selected BKF as the magazine's 2026 California Design Firm of the Year for the West Region.
The Oakland, Calif.-based BKF is transitioning from a traditional regional civil firm into a scaled platform with acquisition-driven growth. The firm reported $217M revenue for California & Hawaii in 2025.
A major step in achieving that was the strategic merger with MNS Engineers, which expanded its footprint to 21 offices and nearly 800 professionals across the Western U.S. BKF also recently acquired Lotus Water, a specialized water resources and climate resilience consultancy. The two strategic moves have dramatically broadened the firm’s service offerings in transportation and water while preserving regional expertise and client relationships.
BKF remains involved in other sectors such as government, planning, and land development. Complementing these achievements, BKF invested heavily in systems modernization, including the enterprise implementation of Deltek Vantagepoint.
