After a year-long effort that began with more than 800 entries, ENR has selected a trio of challenging and impressively delivered projects as Project of the Year finalists in ENR’s 2024 Best of the Best competition.

Earlier this month, the 20 BOTB category winners were announced, selected by multiple rounds of judging. Panels of industry experts poured over hundreds of nationwide entries submitted by the project teams and evaluated them based on their impact to the community, improvement to construction industry practices, design innovation, safety and quality of work.

From a shortlist provided by the judges, ENR editors examined each project, considered additional sources for new detail and selected the following three projects as finalists for the ‘Best in Show’ award:

In alphabetical order, they are:

  • County of San Diego Southeastern Live Well Center, located in San Diego. Originally submitted by PCL Construction to ENR California in the Government/Public Building category.
  • Northwest Phase II Extension Light Rail Transit, located in Phoenix. Originally submitted to ENR Southwest in the Airport/Port category by Kiewit-McCarthy, a Joint Venture (KMJV).
  • Replacement of Tower Elevators and Miscellaneous Rehab at the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge (MP-09), located in Brooklyn, N.Y. Originally submitted by Kiewit Infrastructure Co. to ENR New York in the Highway/Bridge category.

The finalists, as well as all category-winning projects and recognition of judges will be featured in more depth in the March 17 print issue of ENR—which also will reveal the Project of the Year.

ENR will recognize these projects and their teams at a brunch at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers in New York City on March 27, as well as at the magazine's 60th Annual Award of Excellence Gala that also will highlight the magazine's Top 25 Newsmakers and Award of Excellence winner.
