ENR California & Northwest is thrilled to announce that John Schaufelberger, Dean Emeritus, College of Built Environments, and Professor Emeritus, Department of Construction Management, at the University of Washington, received ENR California & Northwest’s 2022 Legacy Award.

Each year, ENR editors vote for recipients for regional Legacy Awards, which honor professionals who have contributed a substantial legacy of lifetime service to their colleagues and the A/E/C industry.

Since 1994, Schaufelberger, who retired in December, taught at UW in the areas of construction equipment management, construction practices, construction contract procurement, construction firm management and international construction project management. 

Prior to his tenure at the UW, Schaufelberger, a licensed professional engineer, served 30 years as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, managing major public works construction projects in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and throughout the United States.  

Schaufelberger is the author of Construction Equipment Management and Construction Business Management.  He is co-author of Construction Cost Estimating: Process and Practices;Construction Project SafetyProfessional Ethics for the Construction Industry; and Management of Construction Projects:  A Constructor’s Perspective.

Last year, Schaufelberger received the Associated Schools of Construction’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also a longtime ENR Regional Best Projects judge for the Northwest region.
