ENR California & Northwest congratulates citizenM on its recognition as the region’s 2021 Owner of the Year.
Amsterdam-based citizenM is the first and only hotel business to build entirely from prefabricated rooms and modular building blocks. Last year, citizenM won ENR Northwest’s Best Residential/Hospitality Project for its South Lake Union Hotel in Seattle, and, in 2019, citizenM took home an ENR New York’s Award of Merit for its New York Bowery Hotel.
citizenM operates over 20 hotels with more than 4,760 rooms on three continents. In the next three years, the company plans to open an additional 36 hotels and 8,545 rooms – with added hotels in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
citizenM’s work highlights modular construction’s benefits: increased speed to markets, reduced labor shortage impacts, and increased product quality. Modular construction significantly reduces the number of truck deliveries and associated traffic, pollution, and waste. The hotels are designed with green building standards, and, because the modules are assembled in a factory setting, they are a higher-quality product not subject to risk factors like weather-related delays and labor and material shortages.
