With a 33% rise in year-over-year revenue, Hensel Phelps has been named as ENR California’s 2019 Contractor of the Year. Reporting revenue of $1.6 billion, up from $1.2 billion a year earlier, for the region of California and Hawaii, Hensel Phelps’ 2018 regional growth was due in large part to securing $1.03 billion from American Airlines Inc. for its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) redevelopment program. The project, which broke ground in October and is one of the largest ever for an airport renovation, will connect terminals 4 and 5 in time for the City of Angels’ turn to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Other 2018 Hensel Phelps’ aviation projects included work at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), San Jose International Airport (SJC) and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

The Greeley, Colo.-based firm was also awarded the Southern California Consolidation project for the California Air Resources Board (CARB), a $368 million, 380,000 square foot, 19-acre, zero-net energy facility that will test and research vehicle emissions.

And, in the same period, the firm, founded in 1937, secured the State of Hawaii’s contract for the $140 million Hawaii State Hospital New Patient Facility, a 144-bed forensic psychiatric facility that will be complete in Kaneohe, Hawaii in 2020.
