Texas & Southeast On the Scene: December 2025

Fluor Corp. officials recently joined Texas Dept. of Transportation representatives and other dignitaries to celebrate the groundbreaking of the State Highway 6 (SH-6) expansion project in Bryan/College Station, Texas.
The project, awarded earlier this year, marks a milestone in improving mobility and safety along one of the region’s most critical transportation corridors. The 12-mile stretch of SH-6 will be reconstructed and widened from two to three lanes in each direction, enhancing capacity for commuters, freight and emergency evacuation routes.
“This groundbreaking signifies the start of an exciting expansion of SH-6 that will boost traffic capacity, strengthen regional connectivity and create a safer, more efficient route for everyone,” said Shawn West, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business.

Brasfield & Gorrie construction crews have placed the final beam atop Mount Sinai Medical Center’s new Westchester Freestanding Emergency Dept., marking a major milestone in expanding access to care for residents in western Miami-Dade County.
The four-story, 112,000-sq-ft facility—designed by HuntonBrady Architects—will feature 26 exam bays, a Baker Act receiving unit and advanced imaging services. The project also features a detached two-story central energy plant and medical gas building, demolition of two existing structures and 6 acres of site improvements.
Construction is expected to be complete in late 2026. Mike Peters, vice president and division manager at Brasfield & Gorrie, said, “Partnering with Mount Sinai Medical Center and HuntonBrady Architects on this important project highlights what can be achieved through teamwork and craftsmanship. Our crews take great pride in knowing their work will help make emergency and specialty care more accessible for families across Miami-Dade County.”
