The new headquarters for the Spanish Fork Community Network helps the city provide internet, cable and phone services for a rapidly growing residential population. The two-story, 24,500-sq-ft building is both highly functional and adaptable, with room for growth and flexibility for ever-changing technological advancements.
Although the project faced steel delays, in this case, that delay ended up saving the schedule. Early in the project, the team nearly had to tear out an incorrectly placed foundation and misplaced anchor walls. However, the steel delay allowed the fabricators enough time to move the columns directionally on the base plates, mitigating the need to replace the concrete and move the anchor wall placements, saving the schedule.
In the face of electrical gear delays, crews chose to use a temporary electrical gear in order to maintain the occupancy deadline.
The top of the administration portion of the building is finished with a Swisspearl fiber cement rear-ventilated facade system, giving the building a unique appearance. Because it was a material the contractor had not worked with before, it required careful planning and heightened coordination during installation.
Several design elements enhance the building’s functionality, including orienting the windows to provide passive solar heating.
As the network and community grow, the building will be able to accommodate additional employees, equipment and shop space.
