Construction GIRL Day Introduces 2,000 to Trades

More than 2,000 young women and girls ages 6 to 23 attended Transportation & Construction GIRL Day on Sept. 25 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, Colo. Created by the HOYA Foundation, this annual event aims to expand the perspectives of young women and girls on career opportunities in the transportation and construction trades by engaging them in hands-on experiences like the Encore Electric mobile escape room, where participants must correctly wire outlets, a light, a fan and a three-way switch to escape. This year’s event featured 68 exhibitors and participants from more than 70 Colorado schools.
Pulice Wins Gateway Airport Runway Project
Mesa Gateway Airport Authority awarded Pulice, a FlatironDragados company, a $27-million CMAR contract to deliver Phase 2 of the Runway 12R-30L reconstruction project at Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz. The total value of the first and second project phases exceeds $46 million.
Major Phase 2 scope items include: 82,000 sq yd of reconstructed portland cement concrete pavement runway pavement; 40,000 sq yd of reconstructed asphalt concrete shoulder pavement; new runway markings and lighting; and complete infield grading and drainage improvements. This award marks Pulice’s seventh airside improvements contract for MGAA since 2018, including work on Taxiway C, Taxiway K and the Ellsworth Channel.
INOVA Campus Breaks Ground in Centennial, Colo.
United Properties has broken ground on Phase 1 of the INOVA industrial campus, a best-in-class industrial development in Centennial, Colo. Murray and Stafford is the general contractor. The groundbreaking marks a milestone in the development of this 43-acre campus, which will eventually feature up to five industrial buildings. Phase 1 features two buildings, one totalling 141,480 sq ft and the other 113,770 sq ft. The project can also accommodate build-to-suit developments up to 200,000 sq ft. Expected completion of Phase I is set for the second quarter of 2026.
HDR Plans Expansion to Colorado’s Western Slope
Professional services firm HDR is expanding to Colorado’s Western Slope with a new office in Grand Junction. The firm expects to add staff focused on transportation, strategic communications, waste management, right-of-way acquisition and water.
