This greenfield beverage distribution center represents a generational investment for family-owned Clark Beverage Group. The design-build project delivered a temperature-controlled facility that helps consolidate the company’s operations.
This 392,000-sq-ft sales and distribution center was built in an industrial park with room for future expansion. Around the building pad and paved areas, the project team encountered expansive clay soils.
To address this, crews over-excavated the building pad area and brought in fill dirt, raising the building pad elevation by 10 ft to minimize possible clay impacts. Various types of concrete were used depending on area and usage.
The project team used roller-compacted concrete in areas needing to withstand constant truck traffic, while shrinkage compensated concrete flooring was used in the main warehouse area for its greater strength and durability.
Crews placed slabs in a checkerboard pattern to allow for initial expansion and to avoid back-to-back placements. Depending on slab size, the team typically placed two slabs per day, but no more than 500 cu yd to maintain quality.
