Inflation, Tariffs Keep Wyoming Contractors on Edge

Benford says the demand for construction in southeast Wyoming is expected to continue through the end of the year. “Data center construction and commercial construction, be it community icons like Cheyenne Frontier Days and FE Warren Air Force Base or new school construction and school renovation” are high profile projects, he says.
Meanwhile, Wyoming contractors “continue to feel and work through the pinch of a severe workforce shortage, especially in the skilled trades workforce. Inflation concerns and tariff fears are also adding to market volatility and are things that contractors must do their best to factor into jobs,” Benford says.
The Richardson Construction-led McCormick Junior High renovation has been in full swing this summer, and data center work for both Meta and Microsoft is ongoing with Fortis Construction and Hensel Phelps leading those projects, respectively. Other projects to watch include the Knife River-led 3rd Street Reconstruction in Laramie and a power transmission project led by Brink Constructors to tie the wind farms and solar farms into the data centers.
