The Alaska Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements in Juneau. The project entails designing and building a four-lane divided highway from approximately Sterling Highway milepost 82.5 to milepost 94. The design-build RFQ/RFP package is expected to be available prior to Aug. 1. The project is valued at between $90 million and $99 million. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is planning to underground 19 miles of power lines in Nevada County. Construction is expected to start in March and be completed by November. The California Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection is planning to replace the Intermountain Conservation Camp in Bieber. The project entails building CAL FIRE/CDCR administration buildings, a bachelor officer quarters, an inmate dormitory, an inmate kitchen/mess hall, an inmate recreation building, an inmate laundry building, an inmate hobby building, an inmate physical fitness building, an inmate multipurpose building, an inmate staging area, a CAL FIRE warehouse, a CDCR warehouse, a CAL FIRE maintenance shop building, a five-bay auto shop building, a five-bay emergency crew transport building, a five-bay CAL FIRE vehicle storage building, a five-bay CDCR vehicle storage building, a two-bay dozer/transport building, a garage, an inmate family visit building, a generator building, a pump building, a fire pump building, a storage building and a flammables storage building. CALIFORNIA
Occidental Petroleum Corp. and Calpine are planning to construct the Sutter Decarbonization Project. The project will demonstrate and deploy a commercial-scale carbon capture system at the Sutter Energy Center, which is a 550-MW natural gas combined-cycle power plant near Yuba City. The project plans to use ION Clean Energy’s ICE-21 solvent to capture up to 1.75 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from this facility each year (equivalent to the annual emissions of nearly 390,000 gasoline-powered cars), transport it and sequester it permanently and safely more than a half mile underground in saline geologic formations. This project will be the first in the world to deploy an air-cooling system at a carbon capture facility, which will eliminate the use of cooling water and significantly minimize freshwater usage. Humboldt State University is planning to construct an Engineering and Technology Building on its campus in Arcata. The three-story, 70,200-sq-ft building will include classrooms, teaching labs, makers spaces, student collaboration spaces and offices. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2024 and be completed by the spring of 2026. The architects are AC Martin and Swinerton Builders, and Swinerton is also the general contractor. The city of Inglewood has prequalified three teams seeking to provide design-build-finance-operate-maintain services to support the Inglewood Transit Connector Project, including the ATS fixed facilities and other miscellaneous infrastructure. The contract excludes the ATS operating system for the city. The Inglewood Transportation Connector will connect LA Metro’s Inglewood K Line Station to SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, Hollywood Park and the Los Angeles Clippers’ future Intuit Dome. DM Development Partners LLC is planning to build the 300 De Haro residential building at 300 De Haro St. in San Francisco. The 12-story, 216,890-sq-ft building will contain 134,360 sq ft of residential space, 24,590 sq ft for amenities, 3,580 sq ft for retail use, 150 bicycle parking spaces and vehicular parking for 35-53 vehicles using second-level stackers. Bain Capital Real Estate and Bardas Investment Group are planning to develop the Echelon Television Center on a full city block at 5601 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. The site was formerly occupied by a Sears store. The complex will include 110,000 sq ft of production studios and support space; 388,000 sq ft of office space; 12,300 sq ft of ground-floor restaurant space; and parking for 981 vehicles in two subterranean levels. Hale Mahaolu Inc. and Highridge Costa Development Co. LLC are planning to build Liloa Hale Senior Rental Housing in Kihei on Maui. The three-story, 102,690-sq-ft building will contain 117 apartments. OREGON
Kirby Nagelhout Construction Co., the construction manager at-risk, has started building the Deschutes Public Library Central Library in Bend. The two-story, 115,000-sq-ft building will be located on a 12-acre site at the intersection of Highway 20 and Robal Road. It will contain a state-of-the-art learning center for children; flexible gathering spaces for a variety of purposes from business meetings to study rooms for students to DIY activities; and serve as a technology hub and a performance and art space. It will also house the material handling and administrative components for the entire library system. The project is valued at $81.5 million. The city of Hillsborough is currently evaluating submitted proposals for architecture/engineering services for designing the new Hillsboro Police Headquarters. Sun2o Partners LLC and Powerbridge LLC are planning to construct the Cascade Renewable Transmission System, a 320-kilovolt high-voltage direct current transmission line that would span approximately 100 miles between The Dalles and Portland. The majority of the HVDC line would be installed in the bed of the Columbia River using a hydro jet cable burial machine, or jet plow. The jet plow temporarily fluidizes sediment in an approximately 18-in.-wide trench, places the cable in the trench and allows the sediment to settle back over the cable, burying it at the prescribed depth in the riverbed. An approximately 7.5-mile segment of the HDVC line would be buried in lands adjacent to the river near Stevenson, Wash., to avoid the Bonneville Lock and Dam. 5/1 The Washington State Dept. of Transportation Northwest Region is seeking proposals for design-build services from short-listed proposers for the Interstate 90 and State Route 900 Fish Passage in Olympia. The project entails removing the existing fish passage barriers on unnamed tributaries to Tibbetts Creek and Lake Sammamish and replacing them with fish passable structures. Clark Construction Group has been selected as the construction manager at risk for the Western State Hospital New Forensic Hospital in Lakewood.
