West Tennessee AGC members, many of them involved in heavy civil construction, all report being very busy, says Robin Terry, executive director for AGC West Tennessee Region, while they continue to navigate lingering labor and material shortages from the pandemic.

One roofer reported 18-month delays in getting product, Terry says, and some report labor issues being worse than in 2021.

Infrastructure projects remain on the forefront in the Memphis area alongside new mixed-use developments, she says.

“There’s lots of road construction, widening, infrastructure support, updating roads, repaving—all that is definitely going on,” Terry says.
And Shelby and surrounding counties are vying for the 6,000 new workers expected to come to the area in the next three years with Ford’s BlueOval City in Stanton, Tenn., where the automaker is building an electric truck manufacturing plant.

“It’s a huge influx of residents we haven’t had for years – decades,” Terry says. Preconstruction work has already started at the site, she says, including utility work and site prep.
