Thanks to more teleworking options from area employers and a much lower cost of living than other major metropolitan areas, Spokane, Wash., and neighboring city Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, are experiencing robust industrial growth and increased housing demand, says Jessica Matthews, who is based in HDR’s Bellevue, Wash., office.

“To support this growth, infrastructure investments have been critical,” Matthews says. “For example, HDR is currently working with the city of Spokane Valley to design multiple railroad grade-separation projects that support the city’s economic development goals and is also involved in several projects at Spokane International Airport to enhance access, parking and facilitate the transportation of goods via air, ground and rail.”

HDR also is supporting the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) with a variety of assignments to help build out the North Spokane Corridor and reduce congestion, improve safety and enhance mobility, Matthews says.
