To help protect the “Central Park of Houston” from future flooding while maintaining its character, a seven-phase project identified 16 repair sites along two miles of the bayou. The project helps to create a maintainable bayou that will withstand Texas’ tropical weather.

Construction had to be planned around multiple stakeholder requests that included no construction during park events, no use of heavy equipment and no construction during the summer months. A plan also had to be developed to get construction materials to the hard-to-access repair areas, protect the existing facilities and preserve trees. Project scope also included a man-made controlled release upstream reservoir, as it was imperative to have multiple risk mitigation options.
