The good neighbor policy for the three-story, 67,000-sq-ft assisted living and memory community began with the safe demolition of an existing synagogue and multifamily house, with all hazardous materials abated with no effects on adjacent residences.
During construction of the $20.2-million project, material deliveries were scheduled after eight in the morning to minimize traffic disruptions. Daily checks ensured all access points were properly secured and that the jobsite was free of debris and clutter. To complement teamwide site-specific safety training, all contractor personnel were authorized to recognize and stop unsafe or potentially unsafe practices. As a result, the project team tallied more than 202,000 work hours without a recordable incident or lost-time injury.
By building numerous apartments several months ahead of schedule, the project team provided model units to ensure conformance with the owner’s vision and minimize rework needs as well as aid with the community marketing efforts. Monthly updates kept all neighbors informed of the 17-month project’s progress.
In addition to providing residential units and many on-site services, the 100-resident community also complements adjacent wetlands and parkland with a comprehensive planting plan that includes flowering and shade trees, pollinator rain gardens, bird nesting boxes and walking paths.
