Working under a $187-million design-build contract, crews relocated the existing federal inspection services facility from Terminal 2 East to Terminal 2 West at San Diego International Airport. Six existing gates were repurposed into independent or swing gates that can accommodate three wide-body and three narrow-body aircraft. Crews added a sterile corridor system and associated vertical transportation to deplane and process passengers into a new addition for Customs and Border Patrol.

The team started structural steel erection within six months of receiving notice to proceed and accelerated structural design within six weeks after a bid package was released. The steel fabricator worked alongside the structural engineer to finalize drawings for permits. As a result, steel was delivered to the site within five months of NTP and within three months of awarding the steel-bid package.
