Built in one of the fastest-growing school districts in the Houston area, this $143.6-million school replaces Sheldon ISD’s 50-year-old high school. The 580,000-sq-ft C.E. King High School can accommodate up to 3,500 students in a three-story facility that is divided into three primary sections—all connecting to one spine through the building. Access to a water and wastewater source during construction was a significant challenge. Fourteen 21,000-gallon frac tanks were brought on site for water storage and dewatering operations. Hurricane Harvey caused the project team to lose several weeks due to lack of worker access to the site. The project had no lost-time accidents and no OSHA recordable incidents during 227,206 work hours.
