The short-term effects of the pandemic on the Reno area have “released some steam from a very hot market that many believe will be short lived,” Garcia says. He notes that health care expansions at Renown, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical and other facilities are progressing, in addition to investments these facilities have made to deal with the pandemic. “The Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center is the first new hospital being built in Reno in a number of years,” Garcia says. SR Construction is serving as general contractor on the project. Operated by the Valley Health System as part of Universal Health Services, the project features a 300,000-sq-ft hospital and a 60,000-sq-ft medical office building.
“In addition to the daily uncertainty surrounding the global pandemic, the largest challenges facing Reno stem from the unprecedented growth the region has been experiencing,” he says. “We have grown much more aware of how fragile our supply chain for materials and equipment is, which will inevitably cause continued strain on construction projects for years to come.”
