This six-acre expansion project created space at the New Orleans Museum of Art for 26 new works of sculptural art and focused on the sculpture garden’s 11-mile-long water system. The project team reshaped the existing lagoon and stabilized the shoreline to improve water quality and reduce flow to municipal systems. Crews removed and replaced nearly 50,000 cu yd of soil with environmentally appropriate soil, and islands were built with clay soils using geotextile grid and fabric to prevent erosion.

To fulfill the museum’s mission to increase public access to the arts through indoor and outdoor learning environments, the garden also incorporates an amphitheater, stage and sculpture pavilion.
