For 58 years, the Abilene Christian University Wildcats played their home games away, but on Sept. 16, 2017, they competed at home in their NCAA Division I football stadium––and won. Delivered on time and on budget, the 12,000-seat facility, expandable for the future, includes a five-story press box, 10 luxury suites and a club room. Early budget overage required the team to reduce costs without sacrificing design. Furthering this effort was a BIM consultant who identified conflicts, allowing for prefabrication options. The team presented the university with 60-plus design and materials alternatives, including converting 100% precast structures to combined precast and slab on grade, lowering the stadium to reduce site grading and offering less costly materials options.
