Award of Merit

Owner: The Recovery School District
Lead Design Firm: Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects
General Contractor: CORE Construction
Civil/Structural Engineer: Schrenk & Civil Engineer
MEP Engineer: Moses Engineers Inc.

This three-story, 104,000-sq-ft LEED Silver elementary school replaces a facility destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Construction teams completed the project in just over 260,000 man-hours with no lost-time or recordable incidents.

As part of the site safety program, the contractor conducted safety leadership outreach training with every subcontractor. The team also utilized an orientation coding and numbering system that provides information on training, contact information and pre-existing medical conditions for all workers on site.

A different subcontractor foreman or superintendent led stand-down safety meetings each week to better engage subs and improve interaction among all team members.
