Photographer Alex Phillips captured an aerial view of the Texas-shaped lazy river pool being constructed on the sixth-floor terrace of the Marriott Marquis Houston. The hotel is being built by the joint venture team of BalfourBeattyWELBRO. Phillips took the shot using a Nikon D5100.

Perched 110 ft above ground and surrounded by Houston’s soaring downtown skyline, the hotel’s deck features a 530-ft-long water feature that circumnavigates a Texas-shaped pool, from the Panhandle to North Texas around Dallas, then east along the Louisiana border to Houston and Mexico. Approaching El Paso, the river seems to “disappear” off the edge of the building.

“I was trying to get a comprehensive shot of the Texas-shaped pool while also capturing the greenery from Discovery Green [park] in the background,” Phillips says.
