Champions Hall provides the University of Arkansas with more general use classroom and lab space and creates an interactive neighborhood hub and student destination. Working on a constrained site in the middle of a busy college campus significantly restricted construction activities and required extensive coordination to ensure safety. Concerns about hydrostatic pressure related to the planned, recessed portions of the building led the project team to install a secondary soil-nail retaining wall 5 ft out from the building’s exterior wall. A drainage system removes moisture within the interstitial space, protecting the lower partial basement levels from potential moisture migration.
