Hoar Construction led work on a large renovation and expansion at Baybrook Mall, which included a new 285,000-sq-ft lifestyle center, an additional entrance and a 300-space parking garage.

Permitting delays, plus more than 120 days of rain, further complicated an already tight schedule. The project team installed crane mats to protect completed hardscape, used several industrial-size water pumps, poured lime to absorb excess water and worked around the clock during the final months of construction.

The project spanned approximately 858,000 man-hours with no lost-time or recordable incidents. The team established a rule on site whereby people on the job were responsible for eliminating hazards within a 20-ft by 20-ft area around them.

Trade-partner safety meetings included project-specific and toolbox safety topics and jobsite inspections. All workers also completed ongoing safety training. For example, every worker on site had fall-protection training specifically for tie-off points and ladder safety.
