Consulting engineering firm HAKS has established five $5,000 scholarships to celebrate its 25th anniversary.  The scholarships were awarded on May 19 to minority students and/or women majoring in engineering who exhibit strong academic credentials and financial need. “The ability to assist engineering students—particularly women and/or minority students—is one way our firm can give back to our community and nurture the next generation of engineers,” said Husam Ahmad, the firm’s chairman and CEO. “We at HAKS are appreciative of the opportunities we have been given by our clients and colleagues throughout the years, and we know how important it is to encourage a diverse workforce within the engineering field.”

Howell Construction Group celebrated its 125th anniversary at the New York Botanical Garden’s Founders Award Dinner. It was a co-celebration with the New York Botanical Garden, which was also founded in 1891. The two companies have collaborated on several projects together including the Leon Levy Visitor Center, the Pfizer Plant Research Laboratory, the Native Plant Garden and the Hudson Garden Grill. Howell is also working on the Green Zone project, which includes a state-of-the-art composting facility.
