Miami Art Museum Breaks Ground on New $131-Million Building
The Miami Art Museum broke ground in December for its new Herzog and de Meuron-designed facility in Downtown Miami’s Museum Park, next to the future home of the Miami Science Museum. The new museum is scheduled to open in 2013.

Taking part in the recent groundbreaking for the new Miami Art Museum facility were, from left: Thom Collins, MAM Director; Miami-Dade County Commission Audrey M. The new facility will include 200,000 sq ft of programmable space, including 120,000 sq ft of interior space and 80,000 sq ft of exterior space. The building will house an educational complex with a library, auditorium, classrooms and workshop space. Construction costs are budgeted at $131 million.
