Award of Merit, Civil Works/Infrastructure: Arcadia Drive Drainage Improvements
This project—completed ahead of schedule and under budget—provided an outfall for a future storm drain that will mitigate the flooding of properties within the Arcadia watershed area, reduce flooding along the upstream side of the Arizona Canal and improve safety. Crews constructed and piped the Old Cross Cut Canal underground to connect it to the existing box culvert that ultimately drains into the Arizona Canal from a baffled stepped inlet structure. Natural features were preserved within the project area, including native trees and cacti. The project team also strove to foster a positive perception of the project within the neighborhood.
