MWH Constructors led the $44.3-million construction management at-risk contract on the new Piedmont Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Piedmont, S.C., for Renewable Water Resources, a local water utility. The new facility, required to meet new water quality standards for the Saluda River, serves communities in Greenville and Anderson counties. The plant—which consolidates and eliminates four 50-plus-year-old plants—is designed to handle a daily average capacity of 4 million gallons a day, with expansion capacity up to 12 MGD. Tieing in to an existing operation on the greenfield site and time constraints proved challenging, but the issues were resolved through close coordination between the operations staff and MWH.
