Award of Merit - Multi-Family Residential/Hospitality

The 385-room hotel is part of the Gateway Center development in College Park, Ga.

Adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, this eight-story, 315,000-sq-ft, 385-room hotel is a key component of the Gateway Center development in College Park. The project also includes 20,000 sq ft of meeting space and a restaurant.

Environmental issues posed by the site's proximity to a commercial railroad line and the airport were early challenges. Another challenge for design firm Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates was the owner's master plan, which required that the facility interface with the adjacent Georgia International Convention Center, an office building, another hotel and the airport's automated people-mover transit system.
