The contractor's goal of extreme sustainability inspired the project's designers. Jennifer Harding, project architect for FME Architecture + Design, who had helped design DPR offices in Raleigh-Durham and Phoenix, noted as much in the contest's entry submittal: "I am thrilled to once again be part of a team willing to challenge convention in the pursuit of doing something extraordinary.

"There's a contagious excitement that comes from being a part of something larger than ourselves," she wrote.

The result impressed ENR California's panel of Best Projects judges. One described DPR's San Francisco "home" as "a beautifully done project that pushed existing technology."
